Cloudberry Jam
Cloudberry Jam was formed in 1991 as a typical Swedish indie-pop band, using loads of guitars as an essential ingredient. One year later their record debut was released, the EP "LA LA LA". The pop tunes were then influenced by classical Motown pop, jazz and bossanova, something that became more prominent in the 6-track CD The art of being cool. That EP that gave Cloudberry Jam really good reviews and led to that Quattro Label in Japan started to show interest.
In Japan everything started with an appearance on a compilation in the late fall of 1994 released by the Bridge (a well known pop band in Japan). In the end of April 1995 the first full size album was released in Sweden and Japan, namely the album "Blank Paycheck". Six months later Blank paycheck had been sold in 50 000 copies.
In 1996 Cloudberry Jam released the album "Providing the atmosphere" and after a year they received a Swedish Golden Disc for more than 50 000 sold copies, and during the summer of 1997 Cloudberry Jam received a Golden Disc in Japan for more that 100 000 sold copies. The last album with Cloudberry Jam, "The impossible shuffle", was released in 1998 and sold about 40 000 copies.
Late 1998 Jennie decided to go back to university (she is a doctorate student) and everyone thought that would be the end of Cloudberry Jam. But in 2000 Jörgen (from CBJ) and Jennie met at again and started to talk about trying to work together again, and to use also Jennie as a songwriter. This project was manifested in an album. The album was released as Jennie Medins soloalbum "The world through my eyes" in 2003 in Japan and in January 2004 in Sweden. By working together they started to think about asking Henrik (from Cloudberry Jam) if he had any good songs, and there they were, back together again, three really good songwriters.
The result of this old/new collaboration is a crossover smash. Jennie was once called a princess of Swedish soul, a nice label but Jennie now modifies that label and introduces a teethgrindingjazzysoulbossa- singer with her feet firmly seated in a sing and songwriter tradition. Together with Jörgen and Henrik an album will be released, and they will do it as a band again- Cloudberry Jam. The album will be called Moving on up!
New album: "Movin' on up" out now in Japan on Handcuts records.
